Owning/managing
The purpose of owning and managing a team isnt that complicated whatsoever. It is all about the money to them. The managers all hope to gain money off the team and the owners overall just want money and large profit. They hope to win games so that more people come to watch and buy apparel for their teams.

Marketing of sports teams could be the most important part of the team in the long run. With marketing sports teams gain fans across the world and not just in their community. Teams show off their players in a good way that makes fans want to come see their games and the main part of marketing is truly winning games. If teams win games they advance in the standings and if youre high in the standings it is statistically proven that more and more people will come to support your team. If you win games then you can have a good shot at winning the championships which you will then be known worldwide as the greatest.

The marketing side of sports management is also very important to your job, team and reputation as a manager. You have to present your players in a way that every person will love them. You aren't only trying to win trophies the main purpose of your job is to keep the money flowing and the fans in the seats. Although you may not have a very good team you can still keep fans interested with great marketing skills, presentations before games, and gaining players that are loved throughout the league already such as a superstar wanting to get back in the game.

Ways to get started in Sports management:
Many people get started in sports management due to their love of sports in high school and sports management is one of the closest things to sports except for an athlete. Although you are not an athlete you are in on every game or match without actually being on the ice, field, or court.In high school you can take classes such as sports management and statistics. In college you can major in sports management and do an internship with a team getting direct experience in the field. Later on you can work with these teams as a full time job.

Sports management is a dream of mine that can be very helpful to sports professions from a high school athletic director all the way up to a general manager. In my 20% time project i will dissect different trades and contracts. Also it focuses on the money aspect of sports or in my case hockey. It goes through all the reasons why certain players are paid differently.
